It is important when creating a video that has a story line to make sure that we are considering narrative theorists, this is because we need to make sure that everything in the video fits together and creates a story that is relevant and fits in with what theorists believe to be the 'ideal' for a narrative.
From the research that we have done into the theorists, we have decided that Todorov is probably the theorists that we have the most affinity for. This is because he believes in the theory of an 'equilibrium' and that everything at the start of the narrative is in balance and is disrupted by an 'disequilibrium' and a problem that the audience recognises. In our video, because we are talking about an unrequited love and the male dancer is not in love with the female dancer; the disequilibrium is essentially starting from the begining however the problem isn't discovered until later on in the video by the female dancer. Looking at what Todorov has to say and what he believes to be the case of narrative and how it is perceived by the audience, we have decided that we want this to be the case for our video as well. With the case of the use of the 'equilibrium' theory, we think that with the story we are trying to tell and what we want the audience to realise and discover throughout this video then it is important that we are considering this technique and realise that to achieve a successful narrative then we have to realise what the theorists are saying. As we have developed the story and the dance that will accompany the story then we have come up with more ideas in how we want the audience to react to the video. For example when we have been looking at inspirational dance videos (that are on the blog) and putting our chosen song alongside it then we have gained more ideas that will be crucial to the narrative of the video, we have realised that seeing this will be very emotional for the audience and the impact of the song and the visuals will create something that will be a real spectacle. We have found that the use of the narrative theorists and what they have taught us about how to perceive narrative has really clarified to us what we actually want to do.
